Take this test to understand how to overcome your overspending/undersaving habits: Feed the Pig-Beat Your Brain.
Here are a few interesting points:
- Did you know that shopping carts are positioned at the entrance way to encourage you to begin spending immediately and the carts get bigger all the time to encourage you to buy even more! Shopping bags are getting larger as well.
- If you plan how to start saving before a significant milestone occurs , i.e. a raise or bonus, you are more likely to stick to your plan. You won’t feel like you’re giving something up or depriving yourself.
- Shopping with a friend can cause you to spend more.
- Discussing money with your partner is healthy for your financial situation and relationship.
- Dieting, depression & stress can be triggers to overspend.
- A parent’s savings habits will influence how their children view saving when they become adults.
Some of you may think this post is just about your personal spending. However I would argue the spending habits you exhibit personally will impact your spending habits as a business owner. What do you think?
Tim Berry, founder of Palo Alto Software, in a recent post on MyVenturePad talked about five key points to keep in mind when selling. He was discussing how to sell without selling your soul and when you really hate sales. I think these points are relevant whether you like selling or not.
- Listening
- Empathizing
- Being truthful
- Solving a problem
- Developing a thick skin
It’s a witty post I think you will enjoy.
